The new CPC forecast for June-August was released today and my initial assessment is that they followed the NMME (National Multi-Model Ensemble) forecast. I agree with the temperature outlook as this is very consistent with the current ocean temperature pattern. But, the drier risks in the Upper Midwest don't line up with the building El Niño, warm water off of the West Coast, and warm water in the Northeast Pacific. I think much of the Midwest/Great Lakes region has northwest flow in the jet stream which creates more frequent squall lines that run through the Midwest. I'll talk more about it in Friday's video (May 22) and also chat through the rest of the US.
