Intense Pacific jet stream activity over the next 10 days could work to weaken the Stratospheric Polar Vortex in early November, according to long-range forecast models. This weakening occurs through a Sudden Stratospheric Warming event and these phenomenon are linked. Often these SSW events can precede cold-air outbreaks over the CONUS, especially in winter. As such, we would consider elevated chances for an early winter airmass through the CONUS in mid-to-late November.
