I am going to jump over spring weather for a moment and show the latest CPC forecast for July-Sept 2026. This forecast was released on the 19th of March and is aggressively dry through the Plains. This would suggest a large mid- to late-summer ridge over Kansas City that will drought drought into Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska, while ridge-riding storms move through the Northern Plains, Central and Eastern Cornbelt, and East. IF this pattern evolves like the CPC is forecasting, I am unsure of how far into Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and the Delta the very dry weather extends. What is very interesting is the same modeling system is driving the greatest heat risk into the Intermountain West and not planting it over the Plains. Confidence in this CPC forecast is very low right now.
